The urban gardener is the focus of Mirvac’s latest Life Series design collaboration in which the balcony and courtyard have been given the designer treatment at Harold Park.

Garden Life landscape designer Richard Unsworth has created outdoor displays at the new Harold Park sales suite to showcase how only a few square metres are needed to produce a green haven in the inner-city.

On Tuesday evening we celebrated the unveiling of the landscaping concept with a garden party held at The Harold Park sales office. Guests enjoyed a Q&A by the MC James Treble, feature guest on the Living Room and Richard Unsworth along with a Q&A with Billy Law, former master chef contestant and blogger of A Table For Two. Billy then spent the evening cooking some BBQ delights from the courtyard area showing guests how they can entertain in an outdoor space at Harold Park.

Richard shared some of his tips and talked with guests in the space, one of the key tips he shared was making sure that plants are year-round performers that can survive without high maintenance. “The outdoor space in the terraces at Harold Park is generous but in any courtyard or balcony scale is important,” says Unsworth. “Big is best if you want to create a feeling of space.

For his balcony garden Unsworth has gone vertical, not just to use space efficiently but to create interest on an otherwise blank wall. “I’ve used plants that are quite hardy but you could just as easily mix them up with some herbs or plant the entire wall with herbs or annuals if you enjoy brightening your balcony with seasonal colour.” Even within the smaller dimensions of a balcony Unsworth advocates the use of large pots and plants.

The Garden Life displays can be viewed from 11am to 4pm, seven days, at the corner of Chapman Rd and Nelson St, Glebe.
