With a style honed working for some of the world’s premier brands and designers, Hess will transform the East Penthouse at Mirvac’s Array tower in Melbourne’s Yarra’s Edge precinct into a sophisticated abode.
First shooting to fame after illustrating the first Sex and the City novel, the penthouse is Hess’ first major interior design project and signals a move into the industry.
“Bringing my illustrations to life in a physical space and creating a home that feels like a living work of art was always going to be the natural next step to me. It is something I have been building towards for some time, following smaller projects I have worked on around the world,” Hess said.
“To be given such a beautiful blank canvas and free rein to create a high fashion home above Melbourne – a truly chic and artistic city – is a dream come true.”
Mirvac Group Executive Residential John Carfi said the partnership with Hess was in response to a strong demand among premium purchasers for exclusive properties that cannot be replicated.
“Megan is one of the most coveted and in-demand illustrators in the fashion world. It is a coup to secure her and an honour that her first major interiors project is Array by Mirvac,” he said.
“The Array penthouses will be two of Melbourne’s most incredible properties when complete, offering incredible views of Melbourne’s CBD, and Megan’s touch will elevate it to a new level. We can’t wait to reveal the final product.”
Briefed to create an elegant, contemporary and chic penthouse that elevates the standard of interiors in Australia, Hess will select all of the penthouse’s interiors including artwork, furnishings and homewares.
She has already signalled a number of creative collaborations with Versace, Cavalli and Fendi are in the works.
She is also creating a range of bespoke pieces that will bring her fashion illustration to life in unexpected ways, further personalising the lavish apartment.
Early designs reveal a palette of bronze, gold and silver, as well as intricately illustrated bespoke Hess wallpaper, an array of artful cushions featuring her signature flair and some breathtaking one-off artworks also created by Hess.
The hero artwork will be an oversized signature Hess illustration of a woman who represents the ‘Queen of Array’, clad in a detailed black gown, which will adorn a large wall in the penthouse living room.
“The penthouses at Array are the crowning jewels of this beautiful building. I want to create a space fit for a modern, urban and chic king and queen of Melbourne – a space that blends luxury and comfort,” Hess said.
“The design of the building, which takes in the amazing views of the Melbourne CBD, is the best feature, and this double storey space will celebrate this spectacular outlook."
Currently immersed in the design process, Hess and Mirvac will unveil the completed property next year, giving its lucky purchaser the opportunity to move into the world’s first Megan Hess interior designed penthouse.
